Much in demand as both a studio and live vocalizer, Norwegian-born Jørn Lande has turn one of the well-nigh prolific and sough-after journeymen singers of his coevals. Getting his start in the late-80's, with local hard rock stria Hydra, Lande later worked with T.N.T. guitar player Ronni Le Treko in metallic rockers Vagabond, issuing deuce albums during their short run from '94 to ‘95. A fortuitous hookup with onetime Whitesnake guitarists Bernie Marsden and Mickey Moody followed, and as The Snakes, they toured and recorded behind both hide and original material during '97 and '98. Next on the agendum for Lande was a studio appearance on index alloy stria Mundanus Imperium's 1998 The Spectral Spheres Coronation album, and then a two-record stint with progressive metallic element group Ark, after which he in conclusion issued his starting time solo album in 2000's Starfire. Since then, Lande has continued to lease out his services to any number of projects (Millenium, Beyond Twilight, Masterplan, Yngwie Malmsteen's touring band) spell releasing extra solo efforts in 2001's Worldchanger, and 2004's Out to Every Nation.

Cate Blanchett and Australian PM hit rocky patch

By Michael Perry

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's
cozy affair with the nation's arts community, in particular
Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett, has hit a rocky patch over an
exhibition of naked photographs of young girls.

Blanchett and 42 other leading arts figures have signed an
open letter critical of Rudd for describing artist Bill
Henson's photographs of naked 12 and 13-year-old children as
"revolting."

Police shut down Henson's exhibition at a Sydney art
gallery last week and confiscated 20 of his photographs as part
of an investigating into whether charges should be laid.

The police raid sparked a heated debate in Australia over
what is art and what is pornography and has seen the arts
community, which publicly backed Rudd's Labor party ahead of
its November election victory, turn on the prime minister for
supporting censorship in the arts.

"The potential prosecution of one of our most respected
artists is no way to build a Creative Australia and does untold
damage to our cultural reputation," said the letter, which was
addressed to Australia's environment minister and the premier
of New South Wales state.

"We should remember that an important index of social
freedom, in earlier times or in repressive regimes elsewhere in
the world, is how artists and art are treated by the state."

The letter is signed by Blanchett, whom Rudd visited in
hospital only days after the birth of her latest baby in April
and whom Rudd invited to Canberra to take part in his national
2020 conference on Australia's future. Other signatories
include Nobel winning writer John Coetzee.

"We wish to make absolutely clear that none of us endorses,
in any way, the abuse of children," they said. "Henson's work
has nothing to do with child pornography and, according to the
judgment of some of the most respected curators and critics in
the world, it is certainly art."

Sex And The City - Nixons Dramatic Acting Debut

SEX AND THE CITY star CYNTHIA NIXON got her big acting break starring in two Broadway shows at the same time.

The 42-year-old actress was still in college when she landed roles in two big New York productions and tirelessly dashed between the different theatres each night

She explains, "As an 18-year-old, I got parts simultaneously with two Broadway shows. In Hurlyburly, I played a waif in the first act with Chris Walken, Harvey Keitel and Jerry Stiller. Then I zoomed two blocks, changed clothes and played Jeremy Irons' daughter in the very British The Real Thing. Then I ran back to Hurlyburly where I was transformed into the slutty character my waif had then become."

But Nixon eventually resigned because her hectic schedule left no time for college work: "I finally quit because school had to come first."

Usher hits out over Noel blast

NOEL GALLAGHER seems to have upset a lot of people by saying JAY-Z is the
wrong choice to headline Glastonbury.

First, Glasto chief MICHAEL EAVIS criticised the OASIS legend on
these pages. Now USHER has hit out.

I think Noel is right but the R&B superstar disagreed, telling me: “It
really shocked me that he said that. Jay-Z is an incredible artist and
headliner.

“I saw him perform at the Hollywood Bowl in LA, and you’re
not getting better than that.”

Usher, who is due to arrive in the UK tomorrow to promote new album Here I
Stand – which hits shops on May 26 – added: “When
we got to work together on my new album, I was sitting there like a fan the
whole time.”

If you’re an Usher fan and want to meet him, I’d start
hitting London’s clubs.

Despite him marrying and becoming a dad last year, the singer has no intention
of slowing his party lifestyle while he’s over here.
Party
A source says: “Usher has requested a list of London’s top
hotspots for him and his 30-strong entourage. And he’ll also be
throwing a huge celebrity party to launch the record.”
I imagine one Bizarre Lord, Noel Gallagher, won’t be on the guest
list.
Meanwhile, Glasto boss Eavis is desperate to make sure AMY WINEHOUSE plays
this year’s festival.

Despite all her personal problems, he says the Back To Black singer even beats
Jay-Z as his No1 pick for the June 27-29 event.

He told me: “We want Amy. I can’t say anything else at
this stage except that she was my first choice when I was starting to
compile a list of artists.”
